So today I had an epiphany: now, as an “indie” writer and publisher, I am my own business entity. How cool is that? Not only that, but I realized I need a name for my company! Sooooo, it got me thinking: what would I call myself? What could I call myself? And then it hit me….it is so amazing to me how I ask questions, and then I get answers in the weirdest of ways: I caught myself singing…well, humming, because I can’t sing…a song from my childhood about the foolish man built his house upon the sand, and when the rains came down and the waters came up, and the house on the sand fell flat. However, the wise man built his house upon the rock…and when the rains came down and the waters came up, the house on the rock stood firm.
I mentioned this to someone else, who told me, this song was rooted in scripture. So, like the good little detective I am, I googled the words I remembered to the song, and then, guess what? As if I needed any more confirmation, the story comes from Matthew, the 7th chapter, verses 24-27, where it reads:
The Wise and Foolish Builders
24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
Why was this confirmation you may ask? Because my SON is named Matthew, and he has been the joy of my world—next to my husband, since we were blessed with his presence.
So, I now have the name of my publishing company—The House Upon the Rock: Where we build foundations that LAST!
